2026 Extra Mile Awards

Thank you to those who go the extra mile for children and families. We’re honored to work alongside and recognize you. Congratulations to our 2026 Extra Mile Award Winners: Jordan Schulz, Aissa Olivarez, Abha Thakkar, Dr. Tanner Bommersbach, MD, MPH. Thank you to our presenters, Melissa Agard, Dane County Executive; Dr. Linda Vakunta, Deputy Mayor of the City of Madison; and Shiva Bidar-Sielaff, Associate Dean for Social Impact and Belonging at UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

The Extra Mile Awards celebrated the remarkable individuals whose dedication strengthens children, families, and our community every day. One of the evening's most moving moments came as Deputy Mayor Dr. Linda Vakunta presented the Early Childhood Education Ally Extra Mile Award to Abha Thakkar, reflecting on their longstanding relationship and shared commitment to supporting young children and families. The ceremony served as a powerful reminder that lasting change is made possible through passionate advocates who continually go above and beyond in service to others.
