Sully & Bruno’s Story

Sullivan, Irish for black or “dark-eyed”. Bruno, Latin for “brown.”

Sullivan, a bright but strong-willed child coping with trauma, struggled with trust and behavioral challenges despite progress in therapy.

Through The Rainbow Project’s support, he was paired with Bruno, a Big Brother mentor, who—after initial difficulties—worked closely with Sully's clinician to build trust using structured incentives and positive reinforcement.

Over time, their bond became “one of the best things that ever happened” Sully's life.

When Sullivan graduated from treatment at The Rainbow Project, he continued to spend time with Bruno on a weekly basis. In fact, his clinician wrote that he recommended their friendship continue indefinitely.

Eight years later, Sullivan’s Rainbow Project clinician was pleased to learn from a Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County event honoring graduating high school seniors that Sullivan and Bruno continued to be paired together.
